Wedding Part 3: Old, Borrowed, New, Blue and what?

So we have all heard of having Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue at your wedding...did you know that this was from a poem? Neither did I until my mom looked it up and here it is:

Something old,
something new,
something borrowed,
something blue,
and a sixpence in her shoe.

Who has ever heard the sixpence in her shoe? Not this girl! Well, according to Wikipedia (yes...my professional research friends are frowning right now..but it is just wedding stuff! :)  ) Something old is for the protection of the baby to come; something borrowed should be from another happy bride for good luck; something blue is a sign of fidelity and a sixpence in her shoe is a symbol for prosperity. According to TheKnot.com Something old is continuity; something new offers optimism for future; something borrowed is for borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love and fidelity; and sixpence in her shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity. So there you have it...for any of you future brides out there! 

Now you may be wondering what was in that little white pouch in the picture of my perfume and bracelet...here it is below again...

Well, it is actually my baby bonnet that I wore when I came home from the hospital. When I was born they would take handkerchiefs and sew them so they made a baby bonnet. You cut the little seams open when it is time to be married and use it the day of your wedding. Inside of the little pouch was my something borrowed, something blue and something new and my "sixpence". 

My something old was the handkerchief that was my baby bonnet.

My something new was a pandora charm for my bracelet. It is a little pillow with two tiny gold rings on it and the little engagement ring has a tiny diamond in it.

My something borrowed was a bracelet my mom wore at her wedding. The bracelet is gold and has her maiden initials on one side and my dads initials on the other. He gave it to her while they were dating. It was "the thing" back then.

My something blue was a little tiny tiffanys box charm that mama got for me considering I had several things from Tiffany's for my wedding.

 

My brother googled what sixpence would convert to in Jamaican dollars. It converted to something like 90 Jamaican dollars. We put that in the little pouch as well because I wore sandals.

I kept the entire pouch in my pocket (yes my awesome dress had pockets) the entire night.
